detect acid in the esophagus or endoscopy to detect other conditions. During an
endoscopy, your doctor looks at the stomach through a long, thin tube is
inserted into the esophagus. It is also possible that your doctor detects the
presence of H. pylori, a bacterium that can cause ulcers.
