How long to take medication?

Treatment to eliminate H. pylori usually takes about 2 to 3 weeks. Your doctor may recommend taking a medication that reduces stomach acid for 8 weeks maximum. Most ulcers heal during this time.
If your symptoms return after you stopped taking the medication, your doctor may recommend taking a different drug or a reduced dose of medicine even when they have symptoms of an ulcer recurrence.
