Are there other medications?

You can use several other medications to help treat ulcers. Two types of drugs (H2 blockers and inhibitors of proton pump) reduce the amount of acid the stomach produces. Usually help people start to feel better within 3 days.

Antacids neutralize acid that the stomach produces. A medicine called sucralfate coats the ulcer to protect it from the acid so it has time to heal.

Another medication, misoprostol, reduces the amount of acid and protects the stomach lining. Usually used to prevent gastric ulcers in stomach who need to take anti-inflammatory drugs and had stomach irritation or ulcers in the past

How long to take medication?

Treatment to eliminate H. pylori usually takes about 2 to 3 weeks. Your doctor may recommend taking a medication that reduces stomach acid for 8 weeks maximum. Most ulcers heal during this time.
If your symptoms return after you stopped taking the medication, your doctor may recommend taking a different drug or a reduced dose of medicine even when they have symptoms of an ulcer recurrence.

Tips to heal the ulcer

Do not smoke.

Avoid anti-inflammatory drugs like aspirin and ibuprofen.

Is what you eat affect my ulcer?

It is possible to do so. But not the same for all it is more likely that certain foods and beverages worsen your pain. These include both regular and decaf coffee, tea, chocolate, meat extracts, alcohol, black pepper, chili powder, mustard seed and nutmeg. It would be desirable to avoid these foods if they cause discomfort. But keep your diet balanced. Try to eat small, frequent meals when you have pain.

How serious are the ulcers?

Ulcer drilling

Most people with ulcers just have stomach pain. Some people have no symptoms at all. But ulcers may cause other health problems. Sometimes bleed. If the ulcers become too deep, can pass through the stomach. This is called drilling. Ulcers can prevent food from passing through the stomach (called obstruction). This causes nausea, vomiting and weight loss. Get help immediately if you have one of the warning signs.
